What is the European Climate Pact?
Launched by the European Commission as part of the European Green Deal, the Pact is a movement of people united by a shared mission to build a more sustainable Europe and help the EU to become climate-neutral by 2050.
The Climate Pact is an opportunity to:
- learn about climate change
- develop and implement solutions
- connect with others and maximise the impact of these solutions
The Pact provides a fertile ground for initiatives, networks and movements that have already begun to revolutionise the approach to climate action in Europe. It aims to empower the countless Europeans who are ready to contribute in whatever way they can.

Why did we start the Pact?
The European Green Deal can only succeed if people, communities, stakeholders and organisations all play their part.
Science tells us we have to act urgently to achieve our Paris Agreement goals, notably to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. EU-wide Eurobarometer surveys show that Europeans see climate change as a serious problem and feel that protecting the environment is personally important for them.
How can I take part?
Anyone can be part of the European Climate Pact. Here are a few ways to participate:
- Subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on climate action.
- Monitor and cut your carbon footprint! The Pact has partnered with ActNow, the United Nations campaign with a mobile app that measures the impact of your daily activities.
- Organise a group climate activity and share ideas on how to make the future sustainable.
- Use our resources to spread clear and accurate information about climate change and climate action.
- Organise your own Climate Pact satellite event to facilitate local discussions and explore new ideas and solutions.
- Become a Climate Pact Ambassador or Friend of the Pact to promote climate action in your network (new calls for Pact Ambassadors are regularly announced).
- Become a Partner of the Pact (new calls for Pact Partners are regularly announced).
What are the Pact’s values?
We want the Pact to be an open, inclusive and ambitious initiative for everyone. People and organisations wishing to take part, for example by becoming Ambassadors, Partners or registering a group climate activity, have to respect the Pact’s values.
- Science, responsibility and commitment: We value concrete, science-based, trustworthy climate actions with clear outcomes to show impact and inspire others.
- Transparency and knowledge sharing: We aim to share information and knowledge on our climate actions and results with other Pact participants and with the public in order to learn from or join each other’s initiatives.
- Ambition and urgency: We need to act quickly and decisively against the climate crisis. While every little step counts, transformative solutions are encouraged, including visionary projects, experimentation, and innovative ways to cooperate.
- Local action and impact: We want to start the change from ourselves and our community. The closer to people’s day-to-day reality, the better.
- Diversity and inclusiveness: We welcome everyone, from any background or profession, of any gender, age and level of ability.
