Youth Climate Leaders (YCL) Portugal is a non-governmental organisation established in 2021 that promotes the employability of young professionals in the fields of climate and sustainability. It is guided by values such as science-based action, continuous learning, intergenerational collaboration, diversity and courage.
YCL believes that the climate crisis and youth unemployment are two of the greatest challenges of our time. Its mission is to train, connect and create chances for young people to lead climate solutions structured around three pillars: climate literacy, networked action and opportunities.
To address these areas, YCL offers science-based workshops and training, combining theoretical and practical learning with mentoring to strengthen youth leadership in sustainability. Through a collaborative network, it connects fellows, mentors and partners, promoting intergenerational dialogue, project collaboration and access to green job opportunities to engage in the transition to a more just and carbon-neutral society.
YCL also engages in climate education and advocacy by organising events, workshops, lectures and conferences, such as LCOY Portugal, which has already had four editions and mobilised over 100 young people for climate action. The organisation primarily works with young people aged 15–35, including students and young professionals, supporting their entry into or transition towards green and sustainability-oriented careers.
