Último Recurso is a Portuguese organisation that leverages the power of law to fight climate change, strengthen the rule of law and promote sustainable development. Operating at the intersection of science, public policy, legislation and implementation, it works to ensure that environmental and climate laws are effectively applied and that governments and corporations are held accountable. 

Its mission is to use legal action to hold major contributors to the climate crisis accountable and transform the legal system into an effective instrument for climate justice. Último Recurso works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, defend vulnerable communities, prevent environmental harm, and protect human rights related to the environment and climate. 

Through strategic litigation, advocacy, policy engagement, community support and education, the organisation drives systemic change. It provides legal assistance to activists and affected communities, develops legal and scientific reports, promotes public awareness of environmental rights, and contributes to policy reform aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Último Recurso collaborates with citizens, policymakers, researchers, legal professionals, non-governmental organisations, social movements, and national and international institutions dedicated to climate and environmental justice.
