Satellite event: Venice and its lagoon

Venice is a city of water, built on water. This means that it cannot exist without the lagoon that surrounds it and of which it is a part. Yet, in recent decades, this vital relationship has been lost or at least trivialized.

Venice and its lagoon.

Curated by F. Pranovi of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice

Tuesday, September 3 – 9.30>11.30

Starting Point: Church of S. Nicolò dei mendicoli

The exploration of initiatives aimed at refocusing attention and, at least in part, rebuilding this relationship between the city and the lagoon is at the heart of the Bauhaus of the Seas and Sails project, funded by the EU, which includes a pilot in Venice. The area of interest is that of S. Marta, a popular neighborhood characterized by the presence in past centuries of a beach and the headquarters of the fisherman's guild (known as nicolotti, from the church of S. Nicolò dei Mendicoli.

The proposed walk will wind through the S. Marta district, combining historical elements, architectures, and future projects, also analyzed in light of the possible effects of climate change.
