Description

The Commission Representation in Germany is planning the online launch event of the European Climate Pact for Germany with climate policy stakeholders, participants from the general public, representatives from the Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) and MEPs.
The 4-hour event is planned for 20 January 2021 following the central launch event in December. Its objective is to raise awareness of the European Climate Pact, its purpose within the European climate policy framework, to facilitate first exchanges between participants in view of developing pledges, and prepare the ground for a series of decentralised events and actions across Germany to implement the Pact over the coming years.
Clara de la Torre, Deputy Director-General for Climate Policy at the European Commission will introduce the event with a presentation of the ideas and goals of the Climate Pact.
Afterwards, panellists will talk about their motivation and lead into a discussion on the topic: What needs to be done for citizens to be able to actively engage in EU climate policy? The discussion will include representatives from European politics, climate science and civil society.
Following the panel discussion, participants can engage in different moderated group discussions, each focusing on a specific priority of the Climate Pact for Germany.
At the end of the event, the moderators of the individual groups will present the discussion results and Robert Gampfer, Political Reporter for Climate Policy at the Commission’s Berlin Representation will give an outlook on how the Climate Pact initiative can be continued.
