Satellite event: Climate Smart Chefs Award

The Climate Smart Chefs Award wants to celebrate and reward European chefs and non-profit organisations aiming to inspire people to change their approach to food, one dish at a time.

LIFE Climate Smart Chefs is the European funded project that aims at empowering chefs as key players to drive the change towards a more sustainable future, lead by Barilla Foundation, ALMA - The School of Italian Culinary Arts, Enaip NET, JAMK University of Applied Sciences and Nutritics Limited.

Every day, across Europe, people are developing solutions to solve food sustainability challenges in their communities. We want to celebrate and reward chefs and non-profit organisations aiming to inspire people to change their approach to food, one dish at a time. This is why we have created the Climate Smart Chefs Award.

The Climate Smart Chefs Award will award the best sustainable practices in two categories:

  1. Chefs, aged 18 or over, citizens or residents of a member state of the European Union, that have completed the LIFE Climate Smart Chefs High-Level Course for culinary professionals (online + 2 days in presence) or the new LIFE Climate Smart Chefs online-only course available on the project’s website (5h 30 min of contents, more info at: www.climatesmartchefs.eu/online-course). Chefs can compete in one of the following two subcategories:
    • the best sustainable restaurant
    • the best sustainable recipe.
  2. Local initiatives run by non-profit organisations, based in EU and led by a chef, dealing with the following issues: food-climate-water nexus; carbon and water footprints reduction; sustainable nutrition; food waste reduction; food costs reduction.

Participants will be judged by an international jury of experts, chaired by Michelin-starred and Green Star Cheffe Chiara Pavan, who is also active as a Climate Pact Ambassador.

Prizes for Chefs include a free training course at ALMA + one-year license to use FoodPrint, the exclusive tool able to calculate the environmental footprint of recipes and menus + visibility at EU level through the LIFE Climate Smart Chefs project channels.

Prizes for non-profit organisations include a monetary award (up to 10,000 € for the first-place winner) + visibility at EU level through the LIFE Climate Smart Chefs project channels.

Applications will be open until 10 June 2024 on www.climatesmartchefs.eu/award. Winners will be awarded during the Final Conference of the LIFE Climate Smart Chefs project to be held in autumn 2024.
