Satellite event: Climate Classic Gdansk 2024

Climate Classic cycling rallies aim to increase the knowledge about the climate change and motivate participants and supporters to collective and individual actions for the climate cause. They have so far taken place in Belgium, France, Italy, Poland and the Netherlands. 

The first Polish edition of Climate Classic took place in Gdansk on 28 May 2023. Approximately 350 participants cycled up to 250km to send a strong pro-climate message. The event was registered as a satellite event of the European Climate Pact.

The second edition of Climate Classic (Climate Classic Gdansk 2024) will take place on 19 May 2024. Cyclists will again take up the challenge of cycling through the Zulawy region, one of the areas in Poland that is most exposed to the rising sea levels, to raise awareness about the climate change amongst the Polish public. The pro-climate objective of the rally is further amplified through the promotion of the rally and its causes through traditional and social media. 

Furthermore, to make a positive climate change, each participant will calculate their carbon footprint and will make an honorary pledge to reduce it. The organisers will, as far as possible, offset CO2 emissions resulting directly from the rally and will make the event generate as little waste as possible (e.g. avoiding plastics, recycling).

The honorary patronage of Climate Classic Gdansk 2024 has been assumed by the Marshall of the Pomorskie Voivodeship. The event is also supported by the City of Gdansk and by an association of local municipalities and territorial units from the Gdansk region (Obszar Metropolitalny Gdansk Gdynia Sopot). The really is a non-profit event. Its organisation costs are covered by sponsors and through sign-in fees paid by participants.
