Climate Pact Going Local Talks: Urban Mobility and Sustainable Cities

The event focuses on sustainable mobility and ecological transition, in the context of the #FairGreenDeal campaign and in view of the upcoming European elections in 2024.

In the context of the #FairGreenDeal campaign and in view of the upcoming European elections in 2024, the PES Group in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), together with Arianna Censi, a member of the group and Mobility Councillor of the Municipality of Milan, will organise an event on sustainable mobility and ecological transition on Saturday 23 March 2024 in Milan. The morning session of the event will be streamed online. You can find the link to the streaming on the event’s webpage the day before the event.

The event is organised within the European Climate Pact Going Local Talks series. It will be sponsored by the CoR's EU local dialogue, the European Commission and the European Climate Pact, and C+ Milan Metropolitan City. It will involve young local administrators part of the Young Elected Politician Programme and Young Democrats Milan.

The initiative will include an interactive debate in the morning and a training session in the afternoon. The debate, which can be followed online and will have interpretation in Italian and English, aims to assess the progress of the transition to active energy mobility and towards a sustainable city in the metropolitan area of Milan and in Lombardy. Discussions will cover the progress of ecological mobility transition, the use of electric and green hydrogen engines in addressing energy poverty, the impact of the new National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Next Generation EU), and European best practices applicable in Lombardy. Key obstacles and challenges faced by local administrations will also be examined together with an open debate with the audience.

The main objective is to listen to and delve into various needs, establishing a constant dialogue with civil society and administrators to promote the culture of the sustainable city as a fundamental element of daily practices, advocating for the most challenging transition: that of our habits.

In the afternoon, local administrators will have the opportunity to participate in a training session conducted in Italian by experts in the field of communication and environmental protection, focusing on how to effectively communicate environmental policies to their citizens.
