The Minoan Energy Community is a citizen-led energy cooperative based in Crete, Greece, established to promote the transition toward a fair, sustainable and locally driven energy future. It operates as a non-profit organisation, owned and governed democratically by its members, including households, local authorities, small businesses and social organisations.

Its mission is to empower citizens to produce, share and manage renewable energy collectively, reducing carbon emissions while strengthening social cohesion and local resilience. The Community develops and operates renewable energy projects – mainly solar and wind installations – under virtual net-metering schemes that allow participants to benefit directly from clean electricity generation.

Beyond energy production, the Minoan Energy Community is active in education, awareness raising and innovation. It organises workshops, school programmes and public events to promote environmental responsibility and participation in the energy transition.

Key stakeholders include citizens, municipalities, regional authorities, universities, energy cooperatives and non-governmental organisations, all working together to build a cleaner, more inclusive and community-centred energy model for Crete and beyond.
