Coopérnico is a Portuguese renewable energy cooperative founded in 2013 by a group of 16 environmentally conscious individuals.
It produces renewable energy, supplies electricity and provides energy services. As of 2025, it has grown to over 6,800 members and has facilitated more than €2.4 million in citizen investment in its projects.
The cooperative's mission is to engage citizens and companies in creating a renewable, decentralised, fair and socially beneficial energy system that contributes to a sustainable future.
Coopérnico develops and finances small-scale renewable energy projects, mainly photovoltaic installations, for member investment and collective benefit.
It supplies electricity to households and businesses through a non-profit model, and offers services and training to members and the community.
The cooperative also collaborates on national and European projects focused on renewable energy production, renewable energy communities, energy efficiency improvements, home renovation and tackling energy poverty. In addition, it actively promotes renewable energy communities and collective self-consumption initiatives across Portugal.
Coopérnico works closely with citizens, companies, social economy organisations, policymakers, and other public and private stakeholders.
