Satellite event: Resilient Reșița - community adaptation to climate change

In recent decades, temperature records have been broken every year, with heat waves, forest fires, agricultural droughts, storms and floods of unprecedented magnitude. These manifestations of climate change are not future scenarios because they are already happening, the climate crisis has begun to affect human societies, devastating many local communities, all over the world! That is why today, in addition to measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, urgent measures to adapt to the potential impacts of the climate crisis are required.

What are the assets of Reșița community to adapt to the climate crisis, which we all have in front of us? Is Reșița a "resilient" city, able to absorb those impacts that can no longer be avoided? Then, every crisis brings with it not only dangers, but also the seeds of opportunities. So, what are the opportunities that the citizens and local authorities of Reșita can capitalise on? Will it be possible to improve the life of the community in the coming years, despite the climate crisis?

We invite you on January 23, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., at the Reșita City Hall (Council Hall), to address these questions together. We will discuss elements related to the science of climate change, but also the European framework for combating climate change.

The event will be moderated by the REPER21 Association team. Bogdan Gioară and Ana-Maria Pălăduș are experts with over 20 years of experience in the field of sustainable development.

The REPER21 association is the national coordinator of the European Climate Pact (www.climate-pact.europa.eu).

The Reșita City Hall is co-organizer and host of the event, as part of its program to promote sustainable development in the local community.
