Satellite event: Interactive workshop on climate change and cities with middle school students

Two CNR researchers, acting as ambassadors, meet middle school students in the city of Potenza to raise  awareness about the impact of climate change on cities and the small actions that everyone can take to tackle the climate crisis.

Introducing the general framework: 

  • Global warming and climate change: what impacts on cities and citizens
  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation: the two sides of the problem
  • The tools available to cities to tackle the climate crisis. 

Objectives of the event 

  • To raise children's awareness of climate change issues and interactions with cities and citizens
  • Encourage behavioural change to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions or the ecological footprint of each citizen 
  • Raising awareness about the risks of climate change and its possible effects on cities
  • Introducing Climate Ambassadors within the European Climate Pact. 

Modalities: 

  • ice breaking activity (Climate Steps) and introduction to the event (15')
  • frontal lesson using slides and videos (30')
  • Creative involvement activity: postcards from the future (division of the children into 4 groups) (20')
  • Presentation of the works realised by the 4 groups and final conclusions (25')
