Satellite event: Informal Youth Summit of the Future and Local Pacts for the Future - Side Event to the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024

The most important event within the United Nations system in 2024 will be the UN Summit of the Future.

This summit aims to find transformative solutions and innovations to increase the effectiveness of the global community's efforts to address current and future global challenges. In order to support these governance innovation efforts of the UN with concrete youth focused and digital innovation enabled solutions, EU Climate Pact Ambassador Dr. Miroslav Polzer is organizing in the context of the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024 the side event "Informal Youth Summit of the Future and Local Pacts for the Future - Pathways towards youth led transformative change". At the side event there will be presented the concept of Local Pacts for the Future, which were developed under Miroslav Polzer's leadership by the association IAAI based in the EU Mission city Klagenfurt in Austria. Local Future Pacts build on the citizen participation innovations of the EU Climate Pact and, with the help of innovative digital tools, enable citizens, organizations and local communities to develop common ideas about challenges and paths to a desirable future and to realize these in the form of an action- and impact-oriented social contract.

• What do young people care about?
• How can the creativity, ingenuity and knowledge of young people be harnessed for local and global action for the common good (aka SDGs implementation/climate action)?
• How can we set up governance innovations that facilitate future, action and impact oriented engagement of citizens and especially youth in SDGs localization?
• How can the UN system learn from the European Climate Pact?
• How can we use the momentum of the UN Summit of the Future for the deployment of innovative citizens / youth engagement mechanisms in the context of the UN?
