In view of the G7, future European and Italian elections in various regions, the event's aim is to stimulate a dialogue to increase citizens' awareness on opportunities for climate action in everyday life and what policies should be put in place for a more sustainable and equitable future. The event will be carried out according to the procedures of the European Climate Pact proposals of the European Commission, more specifically organising a “Peer Parliament” where participants, in groups, will develop proposals and solutions on four themes:
- Mobility
- Energy
- Consumption
- Participation
The Climate Pact is part of the European Green Deal and is helping the European Union to achieve the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050. The proposals and ideas of the event will be collected in a final document that will be delivered to the administrators, local and national and to the European institutions.
After the institutional greetings with the participation of the Italian Special Envoy for Climate Change and the member of the council of Turin, interventions by experts are expected who will introduce the themes of sustainable development, climate change and the issues addressed by the working groups: transport, energy, and food and consumption. The results of the event will be included in a final document. The format also allows participants to take part in a democratic exercise.
The event will be included in the official program of Planet Week, anticipating the G7 climate, energy and environment in the same region. Planet week is a series of initiatives to bring international topics at local level supported by the Ministry of Environment of Italy in collaboration with the World Bank's Connect4Climate.
