Satellite event: EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis - From suffering, strength! How do we build climate change resilience?

On July 15, we mark, through two events, under the aegis of the European Climate Pact, the European Day of Victims of the Climate Crisis in Romania.

July 15 – European Day of Victims of the Climate Crisis Commemoration. Awareness. Resilience.

On July 15, REPER21 marks, through two events, under the aegis of the European Climate Pact, the European Day of Victims of the Climate Crisis in Romania. Established in 2023, following the devastating floods in Belgium and Germany in 2021, this day is a moment to commemorate the victims of the climate crisis around the world and to reflect on the resilience measures we need to develop to cope with increasingly frequent disasters.

1) Local event: Turnu Măgurele | 10:30 AM

Location: Secondary School No. 4 (18 Chimiei Street)

We invite you to discover together the story of a school that turned a moment of uncertainty into an opportunity for development!

After a strong storm completely destroyed the school's roof in 2021, the team coordinated by Mr. Director Emanuel Silimon mobilized the entire community. The roof was rebuilt, and the recovered materials were transformed into resilience pavilions.

The workshop will be attended by members of the school team and the ambassadors of the European Climate Pact in Romania: Emil Zorilă, Anca Bălășoiu, Daniela Niculaie

To participate, please write to us at: roateuclimatepact [dot] eu (ro[at]euclimatepact[dot]eu)

2) Online Event: National Debate | 6:00 PM, on Zoom

Topic: From suffering, strength! How do we build resilience to climate change?

Starting from the example of School no. 4 in Turnu Măgurele, we will explore together: what does it mean to be a "victim of climate change"?; what do we learn from science, psychology and nature about resilience?; how can we better prepare ourselves - individually and as a community?

Guests: European Commission Representation in Romania, Bogdan Antonescu – climatologist, expert in extreme weather phenomena, Irina Marinov – oceanographer, Princeton University, Cristian Lavric – psychotherapist, Emil Zorilă – naturalist, Climate Pact ambassador, Reese Andrei Stoica – student, Climate Pact ambassador, Bogdan Gioară – political scientist, REPER21 president
