The following talk is part of the "pint of science" talks taking place in Basel. Iljana Schubert, Environmental Psychologist & Senior Researcher, Lecturer @ University of Basel & Zurich University of Applied Sciences is one of the three presenters of the evening.
Her talk will focus on Energy Communities in Europe: What we know from the Horizon Europe Empower Project
The Clean Energy for all Europeans package (2019) and the Renewable Energy Directive (2018) paved the way for Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) to become part of the energy landscape of the EU.
Although progress is heterogeneous across different member states, increasing citizen engagement in such projects is a shared interest throughout the EU. RECs greatly increase the complexity of energy markets, whilst simultaneously providing greater energy security and aiding in decarbonization efforts, hence attracting and retaining citizen engagement is vital if they are to become prevalent. In this talk she will highlight key findings regarding engagement in energy communities from the Horizon Europe Empower Project: https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101096354.

Pint of Science brings some of the most brilliant scientists to your local pub to share their latest research and findings with you. You don't need any prior knowledge, and this is your chance to meet the people responsible for the future of science (and have a pint with them). The festival takes place annually over three days in the month of May simultaneously in over 400 cities across the world. Pint of Science Switzerland is a not-for-profit association run by volunteer scientists and science enthusiasts.
