Satellite event: Conference "In the landscape of Masuria State"

At the conference you will learn about the impact of climate change on the landscape of the Great Masurian Lakes. You will learn about sustainable solutions and actions aimed at preserving the anthropomorphic character of the region of Masuria.

International Landscape Day is an annual celebration that aims to increase public awareness of landscape protection, management and planning. It is celebrated in various countries, including Poland, and is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of landscape in human life, as well as to promote activities aimed at its protection.

The initiator of the International Landscape Day is the Council of Europe, which through its convention of 2000, known as the European Landscape Convention, obliged member states to take action for the protection and sustainable management of the landscape. This convention established a legal framework for the protection and management of the landscape in Europe, recognizing it as an important element of cultural and natural heritage and a key factor in the formation of national and regional identity. The main objectives of the celebration of the International Landscape Day are:

  • Increasing public awareness of the importance of landscape for people's quality of life.
  • Promoting sustainable landscape management to ensure its protection and preservation for future generations.
  • Encouraging active public participation in landscape conservation activities.
  • Emphasizing the role of landscape in shaping cultural identity and strengthening social bonds. International Landscape Day is therefore an important element of global efforts to protect landscape heritage, contributing to a better understanding of its value and role in the life of societies around the world.

The idea of the Conference in Kumak:

The event aims to draw attention to the importance of protecting the post-glacial landscape and to promote effective methods of its preservation. The main point of the program will be a conference focused on the subject of anthropopressure in the landscape of Masuria. We would like to present good practices from Scandinavia and the assumptions of a new pilot project of an application that will enable the visualization and analysis of landscape changes in the area of the Great Masurian Lakes. The objectives of the project are to predict and visualize the environmental, economic and social effects resulting from the implementation of various investments in Masurian municipalities.

The "W Krajobrazie" Foundation, as the main organizer of the event, has been involved in environmental protection activities at both regional and international levels for many years. Our initiatives, such as the Global Garden project and the OurFoodOurFuture campaign, have been recognised for their successful combination of science and action.

The President of the Foundation, Mariusz Antolak, PhD, is an expert on landscape architecture and urban planning, and his experience and knowledge provide a solid foundation for our activities. We hope for the opportunity to cooperate in order to contribute to the implementation of this important event, bringing together scientists, representatives of administration, science and business, as well as environmental activists in order to exchange knowledge and experience on environmental protection and shaping. One of the main points of the program is the presentation of the results of the analysis of data obtained from selected municipalities associated in the Great Masurian Lakes Association, m.in. Mikołajki, Giżycko, Ryn.
