Satellite event: Climathon

The event aims to promote the development of impact-driven entrepreneurship in the Charleroi and Wallonia region, while addressing pressing climate and environmental challenges. One of the core objectives is to raise awareness of local environmental issues and, through targeted communication campaigns, encourage businesses to adopt practices that contribute to a sustainable environmental transition. A key goal of the initiative is to foster the growth of a local ecosystem capable of generating innovative solutions to environmental problems. In doing so, the event seeks to have a tangible and far-reaching impact on the many environmental challenges confronting Charleroi Metropolis and the wider Wallonia region.

The approach adopted to achieve these objectives involves engaging a wide range of stakeholders, including industrial companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and public actors who are directly facing specific environmental issues. By bringing together individuals from diverse professional backgrounds and with varied skill sets, the event intends to leverage collective intelligence to address the environmental challenges of the region. This collaborative effort is not limited to technological solutions but also encompasses behavioural changes across society, recognizing the importance of fostering a cultural shift towards sustainability.

The ambitions of the event include expanding participation to encompass between 50 and 100 individuals across Wallonia, particularly in the cities of Charleroi and Liège. Additionally, efforts will be made to establish partnerships with higher education institutions and universities, including UMons and Condorcet, which have a strong presence in Charleroi. Four key themes have been defined in collaboration with various stakeholders, such as universities, the City of Charleroi, IGRETEC and companies from the District Cleantech network. Among those themes, three to four specific challenges will be raised by several actors : BPOST, Roosens Bétons & Greenwin, IGRETEC and UMons & Condorce. Furthermore, the event aspires to develop a "Climathon Wallonia" approach in collaboration with the Venture Lab, thereby creating a cohesive and impactful framework for addressing the environmental challenges of the region.
