This event will be one of a series of collaborations between GEIDCO and UNFCCC on capacity building during and beyond COP29. The speeches at this event will have an educational function, and the content of the speeches will be used as material for capacity building training, in order to more widely introduce relevant initiatives, analysis, researches, and case studies. The event aims to outline the mechanisms, standards, collaboration, tools, and best practices necessary to build capacity on the new power system for global energy transition.
The urgency to address climate change has led to a growing consensus on the need for a rapid shift towards renewable energy sources and the adoption of new technologies in the power sector. This transition requires a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms and standards that govern the integration of renewable energy, energy storage, and smart grid technologies into the existing power system.
Collaboration among stakeholders, the development of innovative tools, and the sharing of successful case studies are essential for building the capacity needed to drive this global energy transition. The primary objective of the event is to facilitate capacity building on new power systems for accelerating the global energy transition and advancing climate action. Specifically, the discussion will focus on:
- Mechanisms and Standards
- Collaboration
- Tools
- Best Practices and Case Studies
