Climate adaptation is most effective when local and regional authorities work together with citizens, communities and local stakeholders. Engaging citizens, local actors and other stakeholders helps create adaptation strategies that are more inclusive, locally relevant and impactful, while building trust, ownership and collaboration. This joint MIP4Adapt–European Climate Pact event will bring together members of both communities and other adaptation actors from across Europe to share practical approaches, tools and inspiring examples of stakeholder and citizen engagement in climate adaptation.
The event will also explore the relevance of the new European Climate Resilience and Risk Management Integrated Framework for local and regional actors. Through short presentations and an interactive panel discussion, participants will explore how to move from consultation to meaningful participation and turn engagement into concrete adaptation action.
Particular attention will be given to inclusive approaches that reach groups disproportionately affected by climate impacts or traditionally underrepresented in adaptation processes.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Discover practical examples of citizen and stakeholder engagement in climate adaptation and collaboration between citizens, local authorities and other stakeholders.
- Explore practical tools and approaches for participation, collaboration and co-creation for climate adaptation.
- Learn about the European Climate Pact, the Mission Adaptation Platform and the new European Climate - Resilience and Risk Management Integrated Framework.
- Exchange experiences and connect with peers and share challenges, lessons learned and solutions.
