**“One Health” and the Right to a Healthy City** April 1, 2026 | 14:45–16:45 University of Milano-Bicocca – Central University Library (U6 Agorà)
This event is conceived as a public discussion on the relationships between environment, health, and urban justice, and will include the presentation of the book *L’impatto dell’Ambiente e degli Stili di Vita nel rischio onco-ematologico* (FrancoAngeli, series “Benessere, Ambiente e Salute”, promoted by AIL – Italian Association against Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma). Organized by Monica Bernardi (Associate Professor of Environmental and Territorial Sociology and European Climate Pact Ambassador), the event takes place within the course *Sociology of the Environment* (BA in Sociology, Department of Sociology and Social Research, University of Milano-Bicocca) and is part of the **“Curiosamente”** public engagement programme of the University Library, continuing a series of initiatives dedicated to ecological transition and environmental awareness.
The meeting will take the form of a dialogue exploring the connections between environmental conditions, lifestyles, and health outcomes through the **One Health approach**, which understands human health as deeply interconnected with ecological systems, territorial contexts, and social inequalities. From this perspective, health cannot be considered solely as a clinical issue but must be interpreted as the outcome of complex socio-environmental processes.
Cities provide a particularly significant setting for examining these dynamics: they are spaces where environmental inequalities often become visible and where public policies, preventive strategies, and community-based care networks can be tested and strengthened.
The book presented during the event addresses these issues by linking scientific evidence on environmental and lifestyle determinants with reflections on prevention in the field of onco-hematological diseases. At the same time, it situates these topics within the broader context of contemporary ecological and social transformations, highlighting the need for new forms of public responsibility and collective action. In this framework, the discussion will also address the idea of the **“right to a healthy city”**, reconnecting health with social justice and with the spatial distribution of environmental risks and resources.
The territorial network of AIL offers an important example of how care and prevention extend beyond medical treatment, involving proximity, solidarity, and community support.
The event is **open to the public** and free of charge.
Registration through the online form is appreciated.
