During its Annual General Meeting, NECSTouR - the Network of European Regions for Competitive and Sustainable Tourism - will bring together representatives from around 30 Regional Tourism Authorities and Destination Management Organisations to advance the sustainable tourism agenda in Europe.
Hosted by the Region of Centre-Val de Loire, NECSTouR’s flagship event will take place in Bourges, France, with a 3-day programme under the theme “Tourism & Culture: from creation to legacy – building resilient and connected territories”.
As part of the programme, a dedicated workshop titled “Tourism & Climate Adaptation – Why & Where to Start” will take place on 22 April. The session will be led by environmental expert and consultant Thomas Dworak from Fresh Thoughts Consulting.
The objective is to provide participants with practical knowledge on how to set up a climate adaptation process in their tourism destinations. Adapting to climate change is not just about playing defense; it is a strategic pivot that can open new doors for the tourism industry. While the risks are real, proactive adaptation creates a more resilient and attractive tourism model.
This workshop will equip participants with a solid understanding and awareness of the risks of climate change for the tourism industry, as well as its “silver linings” and the many opportunities that arise from increasing destination resilience.
The session will introduce the Regional Adaptation Support Tool (RAST), a key resource of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, followed by an interactive group exercise.
