Building on the outcomes of the First Act held in Madeira, this second event of the "From Local Action to Global Impact" series will explore how Atlantic island territories can become living laboratories for climate resilience, sustainable governance and innovation. Hosted in the Azores, the event will bring together policymakers, researchers, Climate Pact Ambassadors, public authorities, civil society organisations and local stakeholders to discuss practical responses to climate change in island regions.
Discussions will focus on climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, ocean governance, renewable energy, nature-based solutions, sustainable territorial planning, blue economy and multi-level governance. Particular attention will be given to the specific challenges and opportunities faced by Atlantic islands and European outermost regions. The programme will include keynote presentations, expert panel discussions and an interactive roundtable aimed at exchanging best practices, strengthening cooperation between island territories and identifying policy recommendations that contribute to the objectives of the European Green Deal and the European Climate Pact.
This event represents the Second Act of the Atlantic Climate Governance Series, connecting the experiences of Madeira and the Azores before extending the dialogue internationally through the final event in South America
The initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration between science, policy and society while promoting islands as strategic laboratories for climate resilience, innovation and sustainable development.
