About 120 years ago, human kind discovered plastics. And we started using them for everything. Plastics are very versatile materials that allow us to keep our food fresh for a longer time, they are water repellent, but they are also extremely sturdy and decomposition takes very long.
We did not think about problems like the pollution plastics create - now, science shows that we even have plastic particles in our bodies! In our hybrid event (onsite in Munich and online via Zoom), we want to bring citizens, experts and scientists together to discuss about the problem plastic pollution poses and find solutions that are compatible with our everyday life.
Expert Speakers: Shellan Saling, interim chair of the Youth Action Plastic Network, associated group of the United Nations Environmental Programme. Dr. Marta Rodríguez-Martínez, scientist and sustainability expert at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Climate Reality Leader, and EU Climate Pact Ambassador. Dana Zhaxylykova, Microplastics researcher, science communicator, and EU Climate Pact Ambassador. Dr. Bernardo Miller, researcher in medical technologies, and EU Climate Pact Ambassador.
The World Cleanup Day on September 20 marked the beginning of an associated campaign: a plastic-free month!
We want to reduce our plastic footprint and “flip the default” from plastic usage to plastic reduction.
Join us and reduce your plastic to zero, share your experience with us on Social Media!
