“Green Solutions – Forum Discussion on Climate Adaptation Opportunities for Municipalities” is a half-day professional event organized by the University of Pécs, the Hungarian community of the European Climate Pact, the Climate Protection Association, and the Europe Direct office of Győr-Moson-Sopron County. The programme brings together municipalities, civil society organizations, and institutions to discuss practical climate adaptation solutions and share local experiences and “climate stories” related to green transition and resilience at municipal level.
The event consists of expert presentations followed by a moderated forum discussion. Key topics include nature-based solutions for climate adaptation, such as the “sponge city” concept for mitigating the impacts of flash floods, heatwaves, and droughts; urban greening and surface de-sealing approaches; community-based environmental initiatives; and the role of school gardens in climate adaptation. Speakers include representatives from the University of Pécs, local municipalities, and environmental organizations, as well as experts involved in European Climate Pact initiatives.
The programme concludes with a networking session and a sustainable standing reception, providing opportunities for informal exchange and cooperation building among participants. The main objectives of the event are to promote knowledge sharing on local climate adaptation practices, strengthen cooperation between municipalities and civil society actors, and encourage the implementation of green, nature-based solutions at the local level.
