Fireflies and Cicadas: Learning Together from Nature

How urban biodiversity can foster citizen-science initiatives and strengthen community wellbeing

  • Taħriġ u workshops

This intergenerational and inclusive public event brings together grandparents, parents, young people, teachers, and activists to explore the relationship between urban green spaces, biodiversity, and community wellbeing. Through two hours of interactive activities, games, and guided discussion, participants reflect on what insectssuch as fireflies and cicadas, can teach us about environmental health, pollution levels, and the importance of protecting urban ecosystems.

The event combines scientific insights from university researchers and local experts with participatory dialogue, encouraging citizens to better understand how nature impacts public health, democratic participation, and climate resilience. The initiative promotes civic engagement, environmental awareness, and community-based action, in line with the goals of the European Climate Pact. The event concludes with an informal networking aperitivo to foster continued exchange, new friendships and collaboration. Admission is free and open to the public.
