EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis – Health & Climate: From Alert to Action

On the occasion of the International Day of Victims of the Climate Crisis (15 July), the European Climate Pact, the Portuguese Council for Health and Environment (CPSA), Comunidade Lidera, and the Municipality of Matosinhos are organising an event dedicated to the impact of extreme climate events (such as heatwaves, floods, and wildfires) on public health.

As these events become more frequent and severe, their consequences for people's health are increasingly impossible to ignore. The climate crisis is no longer a future challenge; it is a public health emergency with immediate and far-reaching consequences. On 18 July in Matosinhos, policymakers, experts, and key stakeholders will come together to advance the discussion beyond awareness and towards meaningful action.

Through informed dialogue and cross-sector collaboration, the event will explore the critical question of what is required to build truly resilient and healthy communities in the face of a changing climate. This gathering will serve as a platform for shaping solutions, strengthening partnerships, and driving collective action where it is needed most.
