Climate protection and nutrition – we’ve heard it all before, often with a wagging finger. On March 11, 2026, Dr. Stefan Hörtenhuber (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna) takes a fresh, fact-based approach.
He explains where our lifestyle truly impacts the climate – and where the effects are smaller than many think. Using surprising comparisons, he illustrates how mobility, housing, health, and diet interact, showing that our future doesn’t depend on strict food restrictions.
The focus is on everyday choices that are practical, feasible, and even enjoyable. This evening is for anyone tired of endless climate appeals and eager to understand what actions really make sense in real life. With nutrition accounting for more than a third of our greenhouse gas emissions, it’s a significant area to examine. Dr. Hörtenhuber’s insights empower participants to make informed decisions at the dinner table, contributing meaningfully to the goal of climate neutrality by 2040.
Dr. Hörtenhuber researches and teaches at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU), specializing in sustainable agricultural production, particularly livestock systems. He also collaborates with the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, the University of Göttingen (Germany), and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL). He was recognized as “Climate Hero of the Week” in the Upper Austrian News in December 2025.
