The Synapses Academy International Conference 2026, entitled “Empowering educators for teaching on Sustainability Citizenship”, will be held on March 27-28, 2026, at the premises of Ellinogermaniki Agogi School.
The conference is organized by the SYNAPSES Consortium and hosted by Ellinogermaniki Agogi, in collaboration with the Institute of Educational Policy. The conference aims to demonstrate how education systems can promote greater awareness and cultivate agents of change capable of envisioning and enacting solutions to climate change, thereby contributing to a sustainable future.
The conference will introduce the SYNAPSES training framework, which outlines how pre-service and in-service programs on teaching for Sustainability Citizenship (SC) can be interrelated and enriched to form a cohesive offering with a significant European dimension. Emphasis will be placed upon stimulating action-oriented teaching, including initiatives such as decreasing consumption, developing sustainable food and energy sources, exploring nature-based solutions, utilizing school buildings as pedagogical tools and greening schoolyards.
Building upon the extensive work of the SYNAPSES project, the conference will feature keynotes, paper and poster presentations and workshops providing access to practical, research-backed solutions and a repository of best practices.
These resources will be delivered via the SYNAPSES Academy portal, a central environment offering materials, community support and structured learning journeys.
The event is designed to equip educators and school leaders with innovative, student-centered methodologies and the necessary tools to facilitate the transformation of their schools into centers of excellence for sustainability and community engagement.
