Description

In their Special Report on Global Warming, the IPCC concludes that limiting the increase in global temperature requires action on demand and lifestyle changes. Previous attempts to realise changes have been slow down by three main factors:

  • limited quantitative data,
  • lack of public awareness and acceptance,
  • and lack of policy solutions that promote structural, systemic change.

The project EU 1.5-degree lifestyles aim to address all three of these limitations by connecting an analysis of individual lifestyle perspectives at household level, with policies and socio-economic structures, at all levels from international to local.

The report explores impacts of consumption in six domains: food; housing, personal transport; goods; leisure; and services, and uses these to aggregate total lifestyle carbon footprints and reveal hotspots in ten countries studied. The three areas of food, housing, and personal transport tend to have the largest impact (around79%) on total lifestyle carbon footprints.
