Forests

Our actions – the Pathway

We pledge to restore the forest cover and decrease the carbon footprint of the Youth on Board Organization in Malawi. – providing a wide range of benefits to the community and ecosystem

  • Support forest restoration in Malawi by 2025 with a target of planting and taking care of 400 trees annually - According to research, a single mature tree can absorb up to 48 pounds of CO2 per year, which can potentially sequester 14,400 pounds of CO2 per year. This translates into a significant positive impact on carbon footprint.

More information on the pledge

  • The project will be implemented in close technical cooperation with experts from the Municipal Forests Departments and the Agriculture Extension Office
  • The project will be monitored and evaluated periodically to determine the progress and success of the restoration efforts.
  • A monitoring plan will be developed to assess the growth and survival of the planted seedlings, each student in schools will be given one tree to take care of it for the entire school year.
  • The carbon footprint of the activities run by the Youth on Board Organization will be calculated and tracked annually to measure the impact of the project.
  • Sustainability: The project will be sustained through the adoption of responsible practices such as regular maintenance of the planted seedlings, avoidance of harmful activities that may damage the restored forest, and the continued partnership with experts from the Municipal Forests company
