General Information

Young Friends of the Earth Europe is a grassroots network of young people and youth organisations working for social and environmental justice on a local, national and European level. We’re active in over 20 countries across Europe and bring together powerful local Young Friends of the Earth groups. We work in cooperation with both Friends of the Earth Europe and Friends of the Earth International and share a common vision and mission. Our common understanding of the world and vision of a just system for everyone unites us, and we act on climate justice, food and agriculture, and sustainability education. We are an inclusive network committed to organising, working together and campaigning in an intersectional way.*

Sustainability Mission

As a youth group focused on climate action, our group believes that it is essential we take responsibility in our part in the climate crisis. We are committed to decrease our GHG emissions via changes in our transport methods as it is one of our main polluting activities. By making our events hybrid and choosing lower-emission travel methods when we travel, we believe we will help contribute to the fight against climate change.

GHG Emissions

Our actions – the Pathway

  • Have 50% of our events, meetings, and conference be available virtually by the end of 2022 with the target of reaching 100% by the end of 2023 - We pledge to change internal policy to subsidise only low-emission travel methods for conferences and workshops.
  •  Have half of our members use low-emission transport for our events by the end of 2022 with the further objective of 75% of our members using low-emission means by the end of 2023 - In cases where virtual work is not realistic, we will work towards making the events available virtually to diminish the GHG emissions of the team.

More information on the target:

  • We will change our internal policy starting October 2022 to only subsidise travel for our events, meetings, and conferences if they are using low-emissions travel methods such as trains, electric cars, etc. We will stop funding travel via flights starting October 2022 and encourage alternative travel methods
  • We will make the policy change clear via our internal communication channels. We will manage our progress by recording the travel methods of our members for our events, meetings, and conferences.
