Our progress towards decarbonization

GHG Emissions

North Star

  • City of Paris have a Base year emissions (absolute) target to reduce GHG emissions 100% by 2050 from a base year of 2004*
  • Commit to setting a science-based target of 1.5°C for emissions reductions by 2021

How we want to achieve this – our roadmap

  • Quantify and report all GHG emissions from sources located within the city boundary*
  • Have a recent city-wide emissions inventory or undertake it within the next two years*
  • Have a up-to-date city-wide emissions inventory that measures CO2, PFCs, CH4, SF6, N2O, NF3, HFCs*
  • Disclose emissions figures (direct and/or indirect) or consumption-based inventories for industrial processes and product use (IPPU), agriculture forestry and other land use (AFOLU)*
  • Decrease city-wide emissions until the next emissions inventory**
  • Have a published city plan that addresses climate change mitigation*
  • Incorporate Emissions reduction targets into the master planning of the city**
  • Join the WWF One Planet City Challenge (One Planet City Challenge (OPCC)*

Energy

Our actions – the Pathway

  • Incorporate Energy efficiency targets into the master planning of the city**
  • City of Paris has a target regarding all energy sectors to increase renewable energy consumed  to 45.0% of the total energy in 2030 from a baseline of 10.0% in 2004. Reported in 2021, the city has achieved 21.0% of this target*¹
  • City of Paris has a target to improve energy efficiency 50.0% in 2050 compared to a base year 2004. Reported in 2021, the city has achieved 25.5% of this target*¹
  • Measure and report the share of Hydro, Biomass, Wind, Geothermal and Solar energy sources in the city electricity mix*
  • Incorporate Renewable energy targets into the master planning of the city**

Pledge: ¹Disclose data regarding city wide renewable energy and/or energy efficiency targets and existing progress towards these
