Shaping the Climate Transition: Citizens take the floor

What should the climate transition look like, and how can citizens influence the policy making process? This high-level event gives Europeans the opportunity to present their recommendations on key environmental issues directly to members of the European Commission, including Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans, responsible for the European Green Deal.

Here’s what you need to know

Event: Shaping the Climate Transition: Citizens take the floor
Date: 29 April
Time: 10:00 a.m – 11:45 a.m. CEST
Location: Live Online
How can I join? You can watch the event live on the Conference on the Future of Europe website.

Europe’s future climate policies will only succeed if they are designed for people and together with people. As part of the European Climate Pact, citizens were invited to hold ‘Peer Parliaments’ – facts based conversations with friends, family, neighbours and colleagues – to  discuss key climate topics from the perspective of everyday life.

These conversations took place between November 2021 and March 2022. The objective was to identify citizens’ preferences and gather recommendations on three crucial climate areas:

  • Sustainable mobility
  • Energy transition
  • Sustainable food consumption

This event gives the citizens who hosted Peer Parliaments the opportunity to share their concerns, views and recommendations on the climate transition, and to make their voices heard.

The findings and results from this citizen-driven event will not only reach the European Commission, but also feed into the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE).
