In Bulgaria, there is an old tradition for people to build drinking fountains. As a result of it, there are nearly 10,000 of them all over the country. However, nowadays our modern society is rapidly adopting the “throwaway” culture, putting the tradition on the shelf and sending nearly 5 mln disposable plastic bottles to the landfill every day.
We have started a national movement of tap water users and ambassadors - bringing Bulgarian society to its roots, tap water - its credibility, and public fountains back to life.
Fountains of Bulgaria is an interactive platform that enables people to stop using disposable plastic bottles and save money by providing them with information about the sources of free tap water near them.
But the fountains are unkempt and in bad condition. So now Friends of Earth Bulgaria and Zero Waste Sofia invite people to celebrate World Water Day and take care of their favorite drinking fountain.
Volunteers who request it will be provided with the necessary cleaning materials by filling out this form.
