A Climate Walk which will take place at the Lycabettus Hill of Athens. Lycabettus is the most distinct and characteristic geographical landmark of Athens. The morphological evolution of the hill is of great interest, and reveals the evolution of the city's habitation. With the enlargement of the capital, due to its size and its influence on the area it acquired a valuable urban resource.
The relief, the character, the variety of plant cover with the strong presence of wooded areas make up a particularly important space with a bioclimatic, aesthetic and functional contribution to the heart of the city. In recent years, Lycabettus, which had occupied a dominant position in the collective consciousness of the Athenians as a place of recreation and summer concerts, has been subject to a great increase in urban pressures while continuing to offer its visitors and users an abundance of undeveloped natural spaces of ecological interest, and hiking routes.
Τhrough our Climate Walk we will focus and highlight the contribution of the Hill to mitigating the consequences of climate change and the contribution to strengthening the resilience of the city. As a common urban resource it can provide many benefits to the Athenians and its visitors in a sustainable way , modern, and in the context of an urban ecology. A prerequisite for this is its overall protection, the treatment of the special challenges it faces, and its revitalization.
The walk will take place on the 30th of March 2024 at 16:00 with duration 1 hour.
