Description

Militaries are huge emitters and by making changes on how they are operating, their environmental footprint could be reduced. The speakers will present the already in place EU’s projects, actions and policies towards sustainability in the military, while discussing about what the next steps should be. EUROMIL’s President, Mr Emmanuel Jacob, will present the findings of our internal survey on climate change and the defence sector to highlight existing activities undertaken by militaries to improve their energy efficiency, while a more coordinated approach is still needed. It should also not be forgotten that climate change has severe effects on the soldiers’ health and capacity during missions and operations. Hence, more cooperation, information exchange and transparency between governments are necessary to reduce militaries’ carbon emissions, improve their efficacy and protect soldiers’ health.
