The American blue crab Callinectes sapidus is a native species of the northeast coast of the United States. The presence of this species has been reported in Europe since the beginning of the 20th century. Other punctual reports have been made in the Mediterranean sea in the 1960s.

Description
Arrived in an environment weakened by climate change, pollution and overfishing, this species has found in the desalinated waters of lagoons and delta, good conditions to conduce to its explosive development.
The blue crab is an omnivorous, predatory species, whose impacts on the local fauna are being evaluated.
Due to the demographic explosion of this species, scientists, fishermen and local authorities are concerned about the impact that this invasive species could have on the natural resources generally targeted by fishing and more broadly on the equilibrium of the marine environment.
In order to raise concern about these ecological, economical and social issues, I will meet with a local eel-fisherman particularly affected by the blue crab invasion to catch some specimens during a boat trip on the lagoon. I will also meet with a marine scientist who is monitoring the spread of this invasive species.
