The Mediterranean Sea and Coast (MEDSEA) Foundation protects and regenerates marine and coastal ecosystems in the Mediterranean through field restoration activities, such as seagrass and wetland recovery, environmental monitoring, applied research, and training and awareness-raising activities.
Its mission is to accelerate the ecological transition needed to halt biodiversity loss and ensure that the Mediterranean Sea remains clean, healthy and productive.
The Foundation carries out ecosystem restoration and monitoring, develops integrated solutions that combine ecological, technological, economic and legal principles, and runs capacity-building workshops and outreach campaigns. It also contributes to the development of policy and governance tools and supports transition towards a sustainable blue economy.
The MEDSEA Foundation works with a wide range of stakeholders, including regional and local public authorities, academic and research institutions, private companies (especially in blue-economy sectors), community groups, schools, non-governmental organisations and citizen-science networks, to co-design and implement climate-relevant and ecosystem-based solutions.
