The Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre (KÉK) is an independent cultural and educational organisation based in Budapest, Hungary. Founded in 2006, it operates at the intersection of architecture, urbanism and environmental sustainability. Its mission is to promote a more inclusive, resilient and climate-conscious built environment through research, education and community engagement.
KÉK initiates and coordinates participatory projects that connect design with social and ecological innovation. Its long-running Community Gardens programme has created and supported dozens of urban gardens across Hungary, engaging thousands of citizens in local climate action. Through the Climate Platform project, KÉK fosters professional and public dialogue on sustainable construction, materials and climate adaptation. The organisation also develops exhibitions, workshops and experimental projects that raise awareness of urban sustainability challenges.
KÉK collaborates with municipalities, universities, non-governmental organisations and international networks, bringing together experts, students and local communities. By combining architectural thinking with civic participation, it contributes to the goals of the European Climate Pact by empowering people to act together for a sustainable and liveable future.
