The Venetian District for Research and Innovation (DVRI) was created by signing the Venice Statement during World Science Day (November 10, 2011), held with the auspices of UNESCO. DVRI gathers cultural Institutions, research centres, universities and associations.

All the members share resources, knowledge, instruments and data to realise common projects at national and international level, mainly focused on achieving sustainable development.

The DVRI members have pledged to enhance the link between Venetian cultural and knowledge hubs and the local communities through engaging, creative, and interdisciplinary activities. As part of its mission, DVRI has supported the Science Gallery Project in Venice and numerous citizen science projects, involving all its 15 members.

The DVRI's initiatives, recognized for encouraging public involvement in scientific research, have had a national and European influence. They have been showcased at:  M9-Museo del ‘900, CNR ISMAR, and the Genova Science Festival (ARSMar lab). The "AquaGranda - A Digital Community Memory" project, co-promoted with Ca’ Foscari University, earned an Honorary Mention for the European Union Citizen Science Award 2023 at the Ars Electronica International Festival.
