Since 2006, Galway Volunteer Centre has supported members of the public to find suitable volunteering roles in Galway City and County. It maintains a list of opportunities advertised on behalf of non-profits and community organisations, which is updated daily, and also provides Garda vetting services. In addition, the Centre runs the Community Volunteers and Galway Street Ambassadors programmes and delivers training in volunteer and organisational management.
On average, around 1,000 new people engage with the Centre each year to explore volunteering opportunities, and it advertises approximately 200 distinct roles annually for local community groups and charities. The organisation also has a strong social media presence and maintains close working relationships with local media, authority officials and public representatives.
In September 2025, Galway Volunteer Centre organised a volunteer recruitment fair specifically focused on climate action. It has previously hosted online public workshops on gardening for biodiversity, and is currently exploring the development of a ‘Library of Things’ for Galway City to support resource sharing within the community.
