At the moment, when inflation and the rise of energy resource prices are a daily phenomenon, and explosions are heard not only in Ukraine, but also in the Gulf of Finland near the Nord Stream gas pipelines, the European Green Deal is becoming an increasingly topical issue. If previously thought that the Green Deal is slowing down its pace, with European member states’ growing interest in coal for energy production, the question is-how to keep the Green Deal high on the European political agenda? In Latvia, too, we are catching at a straw, adopting a law to cut younger trees and encouraging the use of peat as fuel. How much damage will such environment-degrading decisions do to sustainable development? Have we not forgotten about electromobility, the use of renewable resources and the reduction of greenhouse gases? Are all newsworthy questions currently subjected only to "surviving the approaching winter"?
By continuing European Climate Pact discussion cycle, this time we will evaluate what decisions should be made at European, national and individual level, so that the Green Deal keeps its steady course even during economic crisis and, perhaps, even helps to overcome it.
Satellite events are organised by individuals or organisations across Europe in contribution to the European Climate Pact. The events are held under the responsibility of the organisers indicated in the description, and the information given or opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect the official position of the European Commission.
