The BFPN is delighted to announce the publication of the Handbook on cross-border energy communities, now available online!
This comprehensive guide provides practical insights for establishing and managing CBEC projects within the European Union. It is designed to support local actors, policymakers, and stakeholders in navigating the legal, technical, and administrative complexities specific to CBECs, while underscoring their vital role in the EU’s energy transition and cohesion goals.
CBECs offer significant advantages, such as enhanced energy efficiency, job creation, increased energy independence, and reduced carbon emissions. However, they also face considerable challenges. The Handbook explores these barriers and showcases best practices in governance, financing, and technology that can inspire and guide new cross-border initiatives.
By applying the strategies outlined in the Handbook, stakeholders can help unlock the potential of border regions, transforming them into dynamic contributors to a more sustainable and integrated EU energy future.
This publication is part of the Beyond Interreg Funding actions, supporting cross-border cooperation led by the Border Focal Point team of DG REGIO. The Handbook was developed by a consortium of Spatial Foresight, Eurac Research, and EureConsult.
Looking Ahead: Stay tuned! A new publication featuring Border Fiches, with detailed information on each cross-border area in the EU, will be released soon. Don’t miss out on this valuable resource!
