Supercharge your green skills with the European Climate Pact

Supercharge your green skills with the European Climate Pact

Climate action is for everyone – and that includes you! But to take action confidently, it helps to have the right knowledge. Let’s look at how EU initiatives and the European Climate Pact can build up your green expertise.

So, what are the right skills for the future?

This year’s World Youth Skills Day on 15 July focused on how AI and digital skills can help take on the world’s biggest challenges. And while going digital is essential, Europe needs two engines working in parallel: digital and green. It’s a twin transition. That means if you can build your knowledge and experience in both, you’re better equipped for the future.

When it comes green skills specifically, we’re talking about the practical knowledge that you can use to fight climate change.

They can come in many different forms, for example:

  • technical skills in areas like renewable energies, climate technologies, sustainable buildings or farming;
  • transferable skills in things like citizen engagement, environmental policy, climate-related communication or behavioural change.

What is the EU doing to help?

Earlier this year, Europe made a big push to give people the expertise they need for the future by launching the Union of Skills. It will focus on the most important sectors for the digital and green transitions and the Clean Industrial Deal, including science, technology, engineering and maths, and it’s designed to help you:

  • find well-paid, meaningful work;
  • learn and adapt as the world changes;
  • move and work freely across Europe;
  • bring your skills to where they’re needed the most.

The EU will set up new learning hubs, known as skills academies, so you can train for the jobs that are most in demand. This will also help businesses – especially in clean and digital industries – find the workers they need, as nearly four in five are struggling to recruit those with the right expertise.
