Habitat management - Merzse-mocsár Természetvédelmi Terület

We are looking for volunteers and students completing their mandatory school community service for a habitat management event at the Merzse-mocsár on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

The event is organized by the Természetvédelmi Polgárőrség, under the professional guidance and supervision of the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Society (MME), the Nature Conservation Guard Service of FÖRI, and the official nature conservation manager of the protected area, the FŐKERT Directorate of BKM Nonprofit Zrt.

Alongside the work, participants will gain insight into the wildlife and nature conservation importance of the area. We can now consider this event a tradition, as this is the fifth consecutive year (!) we are organizing it, and we are very proud of its ongoing success and high turnout. We hope many of you will join us again this year!

Event Details

Date & Time: Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Meeting Point: Rákoskert railway station, followed by a 10–15 minute walk to the site.

Getting there: Train leaves from Keleti station at 09:20 AM. Bus 97E runs from Őrs vezér tere. Drivers can use the free parking lot next to the station building, which is also the meeting point.

What kind of work is this?

The area is home to protected plant species directly threatened by non-native and invasive plants. We will be using hand tools to remove these invasive species.

Who can join?

Everyone who wants to help! All age groups are welcome, but children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult (parent or teacher). Students completing school community service will be guided by volunteers from the Nature Conservation Civil Guard, though teachers and family members are welcome to join them as well.

Do I need to bring tools or protective gear?

We recommend bringing your own work gloves, though organizers can provide a limited number. All necessary work tools will be provided by MME.

What to wear and bring?

Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Bring your own snacks and drinks if needed; limited refreshments will be provided on site.
