Originally scheduled for July and postponed due to extreme heat conditions, this Climate Pact Ambassadors event will take place on 29 September in Picanya (Valencia), one of the municipalities most severely affected by the 2024 DANA (cold drop) floods. Bringing together citizens, Climate Pact Ambassadors, local stakeholders, victim associations, educators, artists, and public authorities, the event will provide a space for reflection, dialogue, and collective learning on climate resilience and community recovery.
The programme will open with welcoming remarks, followed by a roundtable discussion focused on the impact of the 2024 disaster on children and young people, with particular attention to wellbeing, mental health, and social recovery. Participants will then attend a short artistic performance by local actors, highlighting the role of culture and creative expression in processing collective experiences and strengthening community bonds.
The afternoon will conclude with a roundtable of Climate Pact Ambassadors exploring how art and culture can serve as effective tools for communicating climate challenges, engaging diverse audiences, and supporting the objectives of the European Climate Pact.
At 20:00, participants will take part in a climate walk from Picanya to Paiporta, offering an opportunity to witness ongoing reconstruction efforts and reflect on the long-term impacts of the floods. The walk will conclude in Paiporta, one of the municipalities most affected by the 2024 disaster.
