To mark the EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis, the European Climate Pact community in Lithuania is launching a national awareness campaign focused on heatwave preparedness. Heatwaves are the deadliest climate-related hazard in Europe, yet many of their health impacts can be prevented through simple preventive measures and timely access to reliable information. During this interactive online event, participants will be introduced to a newly developed practical guide containing evidence-based recommendations on how to protect themselves and others during periods of hot weather.
More importantly, the event aims to bring together organisations from different sectors to explore how this information can reach as many people as possible during the summer. We welcome representatives of municipalities, public health institutions, healthcare providers, NGOs, community organisations, libraries, sports organisations, travel agencies, educational institutions and anyone working with the public or vulnerable groups.
The programme will include:
- an introduction to the EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis and the Lithuanian campaign;
- short expert insights on heatwaves, public health and climate adaptation;
- presentation of the practical heatwave preparedness guide;
- an interactive discussion on how organisations can use and disseminate the guide, collaborate on awareness-raising activities and strengthen public preparedness for heatwaves in Lithuania.
The discussion will be organised as an interactive workshop, where participants will be invited to share ideas, identify collaboration opportunities and commit to practical actions that can help protect people during future heatwaves.
