Climate Walk in Sibiu

This event brings citizens, students, and local stakeholders together for an engaging two-hour Climate Walk through the historic center of Sibiu. Designed as an accessible and interactive outdoor activity, the event uses the city itself as an open classroom to explore how climate change shapes urban life—and how communities can respond with resilience, creativity, and civic leadership.

Led by European Climate Pact Ambassadors Ioana Petrescu and Laura Petrescu, the walk departs from Hotel Anastasia. It follows a route that includes Huet Square, the Lies' Bridge, Cibin Market, the Cibin River, and Petőfi Sándor Park.

Each stop introduces a short thematic discussion on key climate topics:

• Climate impacts in cities: heat islands, extreme events, and protecting cultural heritage
• Sustainable mobility: reducing emissions and designing people-friendly cities
• Local food systems: supporting short supply chains and lowering the carbon footprint of what we eat
• Urban rivers and water resilience: the role of waterways in climate adaptation
• Green infrastructure: parks, trees, and nature-based solutions for healthier, safer cities

The walk encourages participants to reflect on everyday choices that shape climate outcomes, while highlighting practical, local solutions that communities, municipalities, and citizen groups can implement.

The event is free to attend and suitable for all ages. Participants are invited to register in advance, as places are limited.

This satellite event contributes to the European Climate Pact’s mission by building climate awareness at the community level, strengthening citizen engagement, and fostering dialogue on how European cities can adapt to a changing climate while becoming more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.
