Format: A 1.5-hour guided "Nature Walk" through Aranda de Duero (Spain). Starting at Ribering (social innovation hub), we visit strategic locations for future Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and rewilding.
Objectives:
- Awareness: Showcase NbS benefits in mitigating heatwaves, droughts, and floods, while restoring local ecosystems.
- Engagement: Advance the public debate on reintroducing nature in the city and gather community support for NbS.
- Resilience: Use "The Inner Green Deal" approach to foster a connection with nature as a driver for climate commitment.
Topics:
- Urban Forestry: Transforming the "Santa Catalina" 2-hectare plot into a biodiverse forest to improve air quality, climatic comfort, and social cohesion.
- Wetland Restoration: Analyzing the "San Juan" lagoon restoration—recovering an ancient ecosystem to act as a natural sponge (flood prevention), carbon sink, and biodiversity hotspot.
- Blue-Green Corridors: Interconnecting local rivers (Duero, Arandilla, Bañuelos, la Nava) through "green veins" to provide ecological connectivity and habitats for biodiversity to thrive.
This event bridges local citizen-led action with the European Climate Pact’s "Together in Action" vision, demonstrating how local NbS contribute to the EU Green Deal goals.
